Stitch and glue is a simple boat building method which uses plywood panels stitched together, usually with copper wire, and glued together with epoxy resin.this type of construction can eliminate much of the need for frames or ribs. plywood panels are cut to shape and stitched together to form an accurate hull shape without the need for forms or special tools.. Stitch and glue building is the name given to boat building using plywood sheets held together by copper wire, string, cable ties, or some other method. the joint is then glassed over – on larger boats the copper wire may be left in, but on smaller craft it is usually cut out.. Variously called "stitch and glue", "stitch and tape" or "tack and tape" this method involves joining plywood panels with wire ties, then applying fiberglass and epoxy to either side of this joint. this strong and lignt technique was first used in great britain on the mirror dinghy..

Stitch and glue kits are a must for building our stitch and glue boats. these kits include copper stitching wire, screws and boat nail fasteners (if required), silica and microspheres fillers, fiberglass tape for inside laminates, plus poxy-shield epoxy resin for gluing, making fillets, encapsulating the interior, and applying interior laminates.. Note about alternate "stitch" methods: though traditionally the stitch in stitch and glue has been copper wire, i find cable ties to be better for a few reasons. mainly, they are easier to tighten and remove (in some instances), and they have a safety feature integrated into them in the sense that they usually break before the wood breaks in. Product description. this soft copper wire is less than 2 mm in diameter making it perfect for stitch and glue boat building. the price is for a 7 metre length that has been rolled to make it easy to cut useable lengths..
