These lines are called buttock or butt lines and are projected onto a single plane called the sheer plan. each buttock line shows the true shape of the hull from the side view for some distance from the centerline of the ship. the centerline plane shows a special butt line called the profile of the ship.. What are you starting off with - have you got any basic / simple / generic lines plan that you can use to start with? once you have a lines plan, then you can create a sectional area curve, and then you can adjust it - swing it forward or aft, make it fuller or leaner - to suit your desired hull coefficients.. Cycle and repeat until structure, decks, weights, powering, and prime mover are pretty settled. then i finialize the shell and do a clean lines plan. after the lines plan is finished and all the limits (tonnage, length, beam, etc) are met, then i pull the offsets off..
